Book Hauls,  Monthly Wrap Ups

October 2018 Wrap Up and Book Haul

*I didn’t read as many books as I wanted to this month. But, I exceeded expectations in the book buying department! To keep this post at a reasonable length I’m not going to include covers of the books I bought. All books will be linked to Goodreads.

Books I read in October 2018

I read eight books in October. Four of them were for the #charmsextracredit and the rest were just because I wanted to.

First up, the books I read for the #charmsextracredit

Book 1

I read Ink and Bone by Rachel Caine for the Alohamora prompt; which was {the first book in a series}. I really liked this one. It was steampunk and dystopian and I enjoyed it quite a bit. One day I will get to the rest of the books in this series.

Book 2

Next, I read The Selection by Kiera Cass. This was for the Lumos prompt, {a white or light cover}. This book wasn’t my favorite of the month but I did enjoy reading it. It was an exceptionally quick read. I honestly can’t see myself finishing this series. Unless I run out of anything else to read. (You’ll see when I get to the haul portion of this post that I won’t run out anytime soon.) Part of me wishes I read this in high school. I would have loved it.

Book 3

For Accio, I read Life and Death by Stephenie Meyer. The prompt for this challenge was {a book on your TBR}. This book wasn’t on the top of my list to read, but it had been on my TBR forever so I decided to give it a shot. I think I can say that I hated this one. The ending was awful. I didn’t keep it.

Book 4

The last challenge that I completed was Rictumsempra. The prompt was {something that tickles you the right way}. I picked A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas. I picked this one because I love fantasy novels and I needed an excuse to get back into it. This was my favorite read for the month.

The Rest of October 2018

I read 4 more books after these. Three of them were rereads and one was new to me.

Book 1

The Women in the Castle by Jessica Shattuck was also a really good read for me. I love a good historical fiction and this one set in WWII was great

Book 2

I reread Harry Potter and the Half- Blood Prince by J.K. Rowling. You’d have to be living under a rock not to know about this book so I’m not going to get into this one.

Book 3

The Passage by Justin Cronin was the perfect October read. Eerie, creepy, thrilling. I loved it. I may or may not have lost sleep over it. But that’s just my overactive imagination for you. I learned not to read after dark and especially not after dark and being the only one awake.

Book 4

The Twelve by Justin Cronin is the sequel to The Passage. These books were both rereads for me but I still loved them. Again, this was a perfect book for October. I wanted to read the complete trilogy in October but I didn’t get to The City of Mirrors. That one is on the top of my list for November. The story is so complex that I know if I don’t read them all right in succession I’ll get mixed up on what is going on.

My October 2018 Book Haul

I will admit I bought way too many books this month. In my defense I was attempting to fill up my bookshelves a bit. I still have a ton of empty space but I’m making good progress there.

Here’s my enormous list of books I bought in the month of October. Most of these are from Book Outlet, some are from Ebay, and some are from Owlcrate.

As you can see I probably won’t be buying many books the rest of the year. At least I shouldn’t be buying any books the rest of the year. November has been declared a no spending month for me so we shall see how that goes.

Happy Reading,
Alicen

P.S. What does your October book haul look like? What’s your most anticipated read for November? Let me know in the comments!
